Founder of famous shoe brand dies!

Oboz founder John Connelly has died. He was 77 years old.

Oboz confirmed in a statement that the outdoor industry veteran died Aug. 22 after a years-long battle with multiple cancers.

Amy Baker, president of Oboz, said in a statement:

"John is a visionary who never sticks to tradition and always maintains an optimistic attitude. Whether it was naming us' Outside + Bozeman 'or his commitment to our community, the trees and this beautiful home, he will always be a part of Orboz."

Connelly has a 50-year career in the outdoor industry. He started at an outdoor store in Richmond, Virginia, and has worked for more than 15 outdoor footwear brands, including Five Ten.

In 2007, Connelly founded the Oboz brand, which quickly became the top choice for outdoor enthusiasts. In 2018, Connery sold Orboz to Kathmandu, one of its early retail partners.

In addition to his contributions to the outdoor industry, Connery is an entrepreneur with a passion for racing and founded Chicane Shoes in 2020, combining racing and outdoor sports.

Orboz has announced a "Walk in John's Shoes" event at noon on Friday to honor his contributions and encourages anyone who knew Connery or wore Orboz shoes to join in this celebration.

adidas lost a six-year striped infringement case

adidas has lost a six-year battle against Isabel Marant and Sandro, with France's highest court ruling that the company's claim that the two brands copied its three stripes was unfounded.

The court found that although there were similarities, they were not sufficient to prove infringement of adidas's intellectual property rights, and the latter was ordered to pay damages to both brands as a result of losing the case.

The lawsuit began in 2018, when adidas accused Isabel Marant and Sandro of copying three of its stripes, noting that the two brands used parallel stripes on tops, pants and shorts sold between 2017 and 2018.

As early as September and October 2020, the Paris Court of Justice had partially rejected adidas's arguments, but retained the reputational damage finding.

However, this decision was overturned by the Court of Appeal, which later rejected all of the brand's claims in full in November 2022. adidas then appealed to the Supreme Court against the two brands, but failed.

adidas also previously filed a lawsuit against the American fashion brand Thom Browne on the stripe design, which in 2018 applied for a stripe design patent, adidas objected to the EU, and after the two sides negotiated without success, adidas again filed a lawsuit to the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2020, but was rejected by the United States Manhattan court.

Third-quarter sales fell and earnings missed expectations

Birkenstock shares fell 10 percent in premarket trading Thursday morning as third-quarter sales and earnings slightly missed analysts' expectations.

Revenue rose 19% to €565 million in the third quarter, up from €473 million in the same period last year.

Net income for the quarter was 74.6 million euros, or 40 cents per share, up from 63.1 million euros, or 35 cents per share, a year earlier. Analysts expected revenue of 566 million euros and earnings of 51 cents per share.

The company touted record results and said revenue growth was helped by strong consumer demand from new capacity and category expansion.

The company added that revenue growth was driven by increased sales of Baotou shoes, which grew more than twice the brand average, and Baotou shoe penetration increased by 400 basis points year-on-year.
